The Aubecq Hotel is one of Victor Horta's best achievements, both for the result built and for the relationship that the architect will maintain with the owner Octave Aubecq throughout the design of the project. Aubecq is authoritarian and peremptory, Horta stubborn and cunning; the two men will eventually get along wonderfully! The hotel was sold in 1948 with all its furniture, also created by Horta, to individuals interested in real estate development. Subsequently, the furniture will be resold and dispersed in public and private collections. Alerted to the upcoming demolition, the Minister of Public Works releases funds so that part of the facade is dismantled and stored. A long wandering begins for 650 stones. In 2001, the Brussels-Capital Region inherited these forgotten fragments, vestiges of a prestigious heritage.
