Sewing and mending clothes was, until the invention of the sewing machine in the mid-19th century, an entirely manual task. The production of soldiers' uniforms was also done by hand, making the process lengthy and costly. Clothes were therefore repaired instead of being discarded, as is often the case nowadays. Is your favorite outfit damaged? Join an interactive workshop to discover new mending techniques. You'll learn about the history of sewing while patching your clothes in a decorative and appealing way, enabling them to be used for many more years. No prior sewing knowledge is required.
