The Fabian Willmann Trio's second album, Freedom, is a real surprise. It sounds like a calm anthem, focused on melody rather than showmanship. Fabian Willmann wanted simple pieces, a state where the band no longer thinks about the music, but lets it happen.

On drums, Jeff Ballard (Ray Charles, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau Trio) plays with natural complexity, telling stories with every fill. On bass, Arne Huber brings an enveloping warmth that perfectly supports Willmann's saxophone. No need for harmony instruments here: the trio breathes, communicates, and lets the music unfold freely.
