Guided Tour of the Protestant Church: About 'Jofferen' and Grand Dukes
Explore the fascinating history of the Protestant Church located in the shadow of the cathedral. Initially established as a chapel in the 14th century, it was transformed into a church with a convent and a girls’ school by noblewomen in the 17th century. Its location still bears the name Jofferegässel in homage to its origins. After being destroyed during the city's 1683 capture by Louis XIV's troops, the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style. In 1817, it was designated as the garrison church for Protestant soldiers. Since 1894, a grand ducal decree has named it the court church of the new Luxembourgish duchy while preserving remnants of its earlier history.
