Temporary Exhibition and Guided Tours: 75th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration
75 years ago, on 9 May 1950, against the backdrop of the Cold War, Robert Schuman issued a declaration which marked the start of the European Community building process. The French Minister for Foreign Affairs aimed to establish a new supranational organization to create a common coal and steel market between France and Germany, which would also be open to other European countries. This initiative became the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and Europe Day has been celebrated on 9 May each year since 1985.
