The Great Chevalier
For the Nuit des Musées 2025, the Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg returns to the original site of the creation of their unforgettable masterpiece, Josiane, the Country Girl. Fifty years after its premiere, the company marks a triumphant return to celebrate this iconic choreography created by the company's founders Josephine and Claudine Bal. To celebrate its anniversary, M. Chevalier, the new Artistic Director of the Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg, revisits the site of the premiere. This special place, now reborn as Mudam, symbolizes, like the Ballet National and M. Chevalier himself, Luxembourg's glorious past and shining future. This sensational performance will pay tribute to a shared glittering history. The Great Chevalier features a series of pieces that propelled the Ballet National to international prominence, including the Dauwendanz (the Pigeon Dance). Widely considered one of the most technically challenging and breathtaking dances in folklore, the Dauwendanz was awarded Intangible Cultural Heritage status by UNESCO in 1987. This special evening is part of the global The Great Chevalier Tour, during which M. Chevalier visits venues contributing to the Ballet National's immense success. Known worldwide for performances showcasing astounding solo physical prowess and vigor, the show is a tender and intimate love letter to the people of Luxembourg, embodied by one of its most talented prodigal sons.
