Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner (Jasmine Lee-Jones)
Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner, a play by Jasmine Lee-Jones, is performed in English with Céline Camara, Marie-Christiane Nishimwe and Nora Zrika, directed by Anne Simon and assistant director Lea Lieser.
Cleo has isolated herself in her bedroom to write her dissertation on structural racism, when a tweet triggers her: "At 21, Kylie Jenner becomes the youngest self-made billionaire ever." But what is self-made about inherited money and white privilege? Cleo fires off a series of anonymous tweets under the hashtag #kyliejennerfidead, expressing her frustration about white women appropriating and profiting from black culture and stereotypes. Her best friend questions Cleo's digital fantasies as the boundaries between online and real life become blurred.
The play tackles black identity, beauty ideals, cultural appropriation, racism, queerness and wokism, exploring the meaning of exposing different bodies in public and the insecurities around radical viewpoints. Anonymous avatars are besieged, befriended, rejected, and projected upon. The combination of visuals and movement with the power of the script creates tension about who can say what, and why.
