With Los Caminos de la Cruz, Cappella Pratensis offers a deep immersion into the music of the Passion and Good Friday, as it resonated in Burgundian and Spanish chapels of the 16th and early 17th centuries. Based on historical inventories and detailed records of the ceremonies, Cappella Pratensis recreates the spiritual and musical atmosphere of Good Friday, where Burgundian tradition and Spanish sensibility meet. The program culminates with the Passion according to Saint John by Spanish composer Sebastián de Vivanco, a major rediscovery of the Iberian musical heritage. Plainchant, polyphonies, pasillos from the Hispanic tradition, and improvisations surround the Ecce lignum crucis, restoring the solemnity, fervor, and emotional depth of sacred music as heard in the Habsburg royal chapels.
