An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. The engineer Vauban, who directed the work during the siege in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to strengthen the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
