We are pleased to present a solo show by Lithuanian artist Marija Rinkeviciute (1993).
Monochromes and faded colors emphasize the subtle precision of forms, while layers of overlapping materials produce reliefs close to trompe-l'oeil. The enigmatic titles summon wings, angels, ghosts, mirrors—evoking both presence and absence, eros and thanatos. There is an almost haptonomic appeal in Marija Rinkevičiūtė's work—the layers of pigment, ink, and paint delicately applied to the surface of the work suggest a caress against our skin.
