The taiko is a traditional Japanese drum. Maïa plays it in the Tokyo Sukeroku style, which combines dance, percussion, and martial art - a total art form. Pianist Eve Beuvens has always been fascinated by the expressive power of dance movement or staged gestures. The pursuit of the perfect gesture, capable of producing the ideal sound inherent in the art of taiko, also resonates in Eve's piano practice. She composed music based on a Noh theater piece by Maïa, who in turn choreographed and rhythmically interpreted two compositions by Eve.
