Baroque Passions - Italy at Versailles
The first opera staged in France in the 17th century marked the beginning of the introduction of Italian opera at the court of Louis XIV, under the influence of Cardinal Mazarin. One notable figure is Luigi Rossi, whose “Orfeo” was performed throughout Europe. This program explores a rarely sung repertoire for three female voices, as well as the influence of Italian music on French composers of the time.
