A woman in love calls her lover on the phone. He has decided to leave her for someone else... In a final exchange, she oscillates between hope and resignation, pain, and the need to know the truth. In this famous monologue by Jean Cocteau—adapted into a lyrical form by Francis Poulenc in 1959—the abandoned woman is often portrayed as a mere wounded lover who constantly lowers herself for a man clearly uninterested in her. Through their staging, Mária Devitzaki and Rhiannon Morgan aim to challenge this perspective. The soprano's voice and the dancer's body come together to unveil the inner struggle of a vulnerable but resilient woman. Accompanied by a pianist and projected videos, these two Luxembourgish artists narrate the story of a romantic breakup where the protagonist eventually gains control, claiming her destiny.
