In the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, a soldier named Rose arrives in an isolated Protestant village and claims rights to an abandoned estate. Despite the documents he presents, Rose only encounters the villagers' distrust. He tries to fit in by increasingly desperate means, notably by courting Suzanna, the farmer’s daughter. However, Rose’s existence is based on lies: a borrowed name, forged papers, and a hidden truth about his identity that threatens to be revealed.
In "Rose", the meticulous direction of Markus Schleinzer meets the outstanding on-screen presence of Sandra Hüller. A striking reflection on belonging, survival, and the urge to reinvent oneself at all costs.
