In 2001, filmmaker Kamal Aljafari travels through Gaza in search of a man he briefly knew in an Israeli prison when he was a teenager. Accompanied by a local guide, Hasan Elboubou, Aljafari documented his journey from north to south on three MiniDV tapes.
The recently recovered footage captures a place and people now gone, victims of time and war. Like an involuntary archive of daily life under siege during the Second Intifada.
In this poignant testimony about Gaza at the beginning of the 2000s, Kamal Aljafari lets his handheld camera wander through the city’s streets, homes, and markets. These raw and intimate images capture life under siege in a documentary style, transforming a personal quest into a profound reflection on survival and erasure.
