In December 1974, photographer Peter Hujar met with writer Linda Rosenkrantz in her apartment to recount, in great detail, the day he had just experienced. Based on a recently discovered transcript of their conversation, this intimate film by Ira Sachs paints a vivid portrait of the New York art scene through Hujar's encounters with Susan Sontag, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, and many others, while reflecting on the precarious economy of the artist's life.
An intimate exploration of memory, creativity, and the rhythms of daily life in 1970s bohemian Manhattan. Sachs creates a fascinating time capsule of artistic life, where each mundane detail – a phone call, a visit to the darkroom – reveals the delicate balance between commerce and integrity that defined a whole generation of Downtown New York artists.
