Agronomist, poet and utopian thinker, Amílcar Cabral was the leader of the anti-colonial movement against Portugal in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, until his assassination in 1973. The 16mm documentary that Miguel Eek dedicates to him is based on unpublished archives and an imaginary diary inspired by Cabral's personal writings.
Through letters, poems, and archival footage, this rich documentary weaves a beautiful and complex portrait of the poet, engineer, and revolutionary Amílcar Cabral, exploring themes of utopia, diplomacy, and violence. The film also powerfully explores themes of interracial love, ambition, terror, and betrayal.
