Soft Dissection is presented for the first time as part of Hisae Ikenaga’s solo exhibition Anatomies of Use at KIOSK.

Soft Dissection is a short fiction film, a collaboration between visual artist Hisae Ikenaga and filmmaker Paula Onet, created with non-professional performers. The film explores the layered memories of the former anatomical theatre at the KASK School of Arts in Ghent, a site historically situated at the intersection of medical education and artistic practice.

Within this setting, enigmatic ceramic objects resembling internal organs are produced, examined, and drawn. These acts function as documentation, echoing historical methods of anatomical study in a pedagogical environment. Through repetition, the gestures performed by the participants become ritualized, creating an atmosphere that is mysterious yet ordinary.

The film was shot in the Cirque Auditorium of the KASK School of Arts, a space that mirrors the KIOSK’s exhibition venue.
