An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London in 1867, once defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. The engineer Vauban, who led the works during the siege in 1684, was tasked with strengthening the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
