An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London of 1867, once defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, who led the siege works in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to strengthen the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
