Mudam presents the European premiere of I Do Nine-Tailed Fox, a new work by Seoul-based artist Sojung Jun. Bringing together live music, archival footage, and new film, the performance revisits the history of the Koryo Theatre in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Founded in Vladivostok in 1932 and relocated to Central Asia with the Korean community during the deportations of 1937, the theatre remains today a living testament to survival and transformation.

In this multimedia performance, Jun draws a parallel between this legacy and the East Asian gumiho, or nine-tailed fox. Often seen as a trickster or threat, the figure symbolizes adaptability and resilience, echoing the story of the Koryo-saram. The work shapes itself as an opera in nine nonlinear chapters, set in a speculative future in 2075 and guided by a "sound archaeologist." Rooted in the Korean narrative form of pansori, Jun extends the sonic landscape with various instruments.

AI is used to bridge archival footage with material from the present and speculative future, creating fluid transitions between times and sounds that offer the chance to share untold stories hidden within history and migration.
