At barely fourteen years old, Antoine Doinel has nothing but trouble, both at school and at home. He skips school with his friend René to avoid dealing with his teacher, to whom he owes a punishment. In the street, he sees his mother in the arms of her lover. The next day, he returns to school without a note and hopes to get away with telling the teacher his mother has died.
