An iconic African figure, known as the 'Congolese Joan of Arc,' Kimpa Vita (1684-1706) was a prophetess and martyr who fought for her country’s independence. She became a symbol of freedom and for women resisting oppression everywhere. Kimpa Vita inspires DeLaVallet Bidiefono’s powerful and intense show, nourished by both traditional and contemporary cultures and performed by dancer Florence Gnarigo. The story is written by author Dieudonné Niangouna, with music by Benoît Lugué and vocals by Malagasy singer Dina Mialinelina accompanying the performance.
