The opera seria in three acts "Idomeneo, re di Creta," composed to a libretto by Giambattista Varesco, is a spectacular work in which the young Mozart gives unprecedented importance to ballet, orchestra, and chorus. Choreographer and stage director Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, with Fabio Biondi conducting the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, presents this production combining singing, dance, and visual arts. For Cherkaoui, the myth of Idomeneo — the king who refuses to abdicate at the cost of sacrificing his own son and the future of his people — remains strikingly relevant. Dancers from the Eastman company move in the refined set of red and white threads designed by Japanese visual artist Chiharu Shiota.
