Newly restored 4K version. Everyone knows that holidays are not meant for having fun—everyone except Monsieur Hulot who, pipe in the air and fan-like silhouette, takes life as it comes. At the wheel of his sputtering old Salmson car, he scandalously disrupts the summer peace of holidaymakers settling into their habits in a small seaside resort on the Atlantic coast. He brings the wonder of sandcastles into seaside boredom. Suddenly, boredom bursts into laughter, while the sandcastles open onto Sleeping Beauty and, to the cries of children, the small beach sputters and shines like Bastille Day... But then September comes. Monsieur Hulot, unaware of the scandal, goes home... But where does he go home to? Into the clouds, no doubt, which he had never really left. And after he disappears, the children look at the sky for a long time.
