Following the great artistic and popular success enjoyed by the 42nd edition of Gaume Jazz last August, it is now time for Gaume Jazz d’Automne, which will present “We Want Miles” in Rossignol (Tintigny) on Saturday 7 November at 8:30 p.m., celebrating the 100th anniversary of Miles DAVIS! We Want Miles — 100 years of Miles Davis From “Kind of Blue” to “Tutu”, an exploratory journey through the many lives of Miles DAVIS This summer, the 42nd Gaume Jazz Festival was already celebrating the centenary of Miles Davis on its stage: a major and elusive figure who, throughout his life, never stopped pushing back the boundaries of jazz, with a tribute performed by Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana. Gaume Jazz d’Automne extends this celebration rather than marking its conclusion, with this new, unprecedented and exceptional event: a tribute performed by six Belgian musicians at the height of their artistry. This evening continues the tribute to Miles Davis, an architect of musical transformations and a magnetic figure who never stopped moving jazz forward. From the lyricism of Kind of Blue to the electric, urban aesthetics of his later years, Miles constantly overturned the codes and shifted the boundaries of the genre. This programme offers an immersion into several of Miles’s artistic lives: the acoustic, timeless, almost contemplative period, defined by open harmonies and expressive minimalism; then the era of major orchestral directions and total freedom; and finally his electric turn, fuelled by groove, funk, rhythmic tensions and a new relationship with pulse. Led by a sextet well versed in the subtleties of the Davisian language, We Want Miles rejects museum-style reconstruction, instead bringing Miles’s spirit to life rather than freezing it in time. The group embraces his legacy while projecting it into the present, rediscovering Miles’s fundamental impulse: to move forward, always. On stage: Guillaume Vierset (guitar), Fil Caporali (bass), Bilou Doneux (drums), Pierre Malempré (trumpet), Thomas Champagne (alto saxophone) and Michel Mainil (tenor saxophone). Concert presented by the non-profit organisation Gaume Jazz, with the support of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Province of Luxembourg, the Municipality of Tintigny, the Rossignol-Tintigny Cultural Centre and Jazz in Belgium.
