On the day of his wedding to Suzanne, Figaro must face the schemes of Count Almaviva, who seeks to seduce his future wife. Disguises, tricks and misunderstandings follow one another in this comedy by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, which has become a great theatre classic. Behind the humour and pace of the plot emerges a portrait of a society marked by inequalities and tensions foreshadowing the Revolution. The play explores power relations and the desire for change while retaining its comic dimension. Dominique Serron, from L’Infini Théâtre, directs a condensed version of the work, performed by nine actors. The production retains Beaumarchais’s language and the original dramatic structure.
