It is forbidden to smoke or eat while walking in the street in Brussels

Since August 12, wearing a mask is compulsory in public places in the 19 municipalities of Brussels, from the age of 12. Only people carrying out intensive physical work on public roads, suffering from a disability or practicing sport are exempt.

Can you take off your mask to smoke a cigarette, eat an ice cream, a waffle or a sandwich in the street? This is a point that still seems unclear to some Belgians. The government of the Brussels-Capital Region answers this question.

 

Can I remove my mask to smoke or eat?

“The consumption of drinks or food remains authorized in public spaces and parks, provided it is done in a static manner (therefore not by walking)” writes the government of the Brussels-Capital Region . “The same rule applies to the consumption of cigarettes,” he explains.
