Our day in Esch had to start with a full belly! So we headed for the Diderich Um Eck café and bookshop! Between the shelves of this bookshop, we made ourselves comfortable in this little café where everything made us want to stay. The atmosphere? Super cozy. The bookseller? Lovely. Your kids? Free to frolic while you sip your coffee and leaf through a book 📖
The menu is 100% healthy (and 200% delicious): sweet treats, hot or soft drinks, savory breaks... For our part, we fell for the fruit granola, a fruit tartine (well... a little fruit and a lot of peanut butter) and two matchas 😋🫐 It's simple, for us, it's a 10/10! And for that... Standing ovation 👏🏻
📆 Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.30pm and Saturday 9.00am to 5.30pm
📍 Café-librairie Diderich Um Eck - 2 rue Victor Hugo, 4140 Esch-sur-Alzette
Little cafés like this one, there are lots and lots and lots of them, so just click below for the full list ☕️

After a good breakfast, it's time to take a stroll, isn't it? We headed for Rue de l'Alzette, THE main shopping street in Esch. Between the well-known names and the small local boutiques, it's impossible not to fall in love: we took our time, chatted while looking at the windows, and discovered lots of little nuggets!
Looking for a flowery break? Do what we did: drop in at Blummeland, the local florist 💐 You're sure to fall in love with their magnificent bouquets... and with the store's decor, which makes you want to take it all away!
For decor lovers, Déco d'Ailleurs is a must! At Sofia's, every piece tells a story: everything here is inspired by nature and made entirely by hand. Her love for handcrafted creativity and deep respect for the environment shine through in every item Explore her unique collections and discover how nature can invite itself into your home with elegance and originality ✨ A true local gem not to be missed!
And then, impossible to resist: we took a little trip to the weekly market 🥬🥕
The colorful stalls, the smell of fresh fruit, the good little roast chickens... What better way to fill up on good cheer (and local produce).

TIME TO EAT ALREADY?

TIME TO EAT ALREADY?
After the effort (shopping, of course), it's time for comfort! We set down our bags at Céline in the Kitchen, and what a treat it was! We sat down, enjoyed ourselves... and could have stayed all day, the atmosphere was so perfect.
Our honest and sincere opinion: incredible lunch, everything homemade by Céline herself, who is, by the way, adorable! The bowls are super generous and just delicious, whether veggie or chicken. I really liked the matchas, 10/10! As for the little pastries, they're pure delight!
During the week, take advantage of our lunchtime menu, which will make your taste buds dance, with a unique menu that changes every day. Make yourself comfortable, treat yourself to a pastry (or three) and let Céline make the moment simply unforgettable. And two Sundays a month, Céline spoils you with a brunch extravaganza: granola, toast, sweet treats... a menu that's sure to melt your heart 🍳 🥯 🥑
A little friendly advice: if you want to try Sunday brunch (and you MUST!), remember to book - it's clearly THE place to be in Esch!
📆 Wednesday to Friday 7.30am to 9.30am and 11.30am to 5pm and Saturday 10.30am to 5pm
📍 Céline in the Kitchen - 28 Rue Dicks, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg

FOR SOME FRESH AIR
FOR SOME FRESH AIR
FOR SOME FRESH AIR
FOR SOME FRESH AIR
With a full belly, it's off to discover Esch's street art. The town is a veritable open-air gallery, with over 20 colorful works gracing the streets. It's a sight for sore eyes 🤩
Then it's off to Gaalgebierg Park! After crossing the footbridge, we find ourselves in a large green setting, perfect for a stroll, a nap on the grass or even a jog for the bravest.
Our favorite: the Escher Déierepark 🐏 A FREE animal park where you can meet deer, billy goats, rabbits, marmots... A real little paradise for kids (and adults too, let's be honest). Two large playgrounds and even Minett Trail hiking trails 🌳 And for a well-deserved break, head for the Baumhauscafé: a super-warm café perched in the heart of the park. Homemade hot chocolate, local drinks, a snack break... and while you're chillin', the kids can have a blast in the play area that goes all the way around the café 🛝
Bonus: you can also spend the night in the Escher Bamhaiser, comfortable perched cabins to extend the adventure 🌟
Our verdict (you were probably looking forward to it): pleasantly surprised by the size and beauty of the park, especially in spring! A perfect place for a lovely stroll. There's even a pétanque court for fans and games for the kids. The path leading to the Escher Déierepark is superbly laid out in the heart of nature. The animal park has three unusual cabins that make you want to go on an adventure. And the Baumhauscafé is a little perched paradise (plus, you can enjoy a strawberry prosecco or a non-alcoholic version for the kids). Perfect for relaxing and recharging your batteries. PS: the slide is not just for kids ;-)
Obviously, we can't list EVERYTHING there is to do in this pretty little town (we'd spend all night...) But you know what you have to do to find out everything ⬇️

LAST STOP: CULTURE, SHOW AND TERRACE
LAST STOP: CULTURE, SHOW AND TERRACE
LAST STOP: CULTURE, SHOW AND TERRACE
LAST STOP: CULTURE, SHOW AND TERRACE
Before you bid Esch farewell, we'd like to give you one last piece of advice: add a dash of culture to your day!
Every Saturday, the Ville d'Esch organizes a series of guided tours to help you discover the town in a different way: architectural strolls, historical walks or the guides' favorites... No need to book, just let yourself be carried away.
If you're not too keen on shopping, we'd recommend a trip to the heart of Belval, where a former steelworks has been transformed into a stunning blend of past and present... Explore its imposing Blast Furnaces and unique contemporary architecture 🏭
If you're feeling curious, stop by the Musée National de la Résistance et des Droits Humains. We've already been there, and believe us, the building and exhibits are well worth the detour! A nice interlude to slip into your program 🏛️ And if your heart's set on contemporary art, take a look at the Kamellebuttek Art Gallery. This lively, colorful venue is hosting a group show until May 3 (so hurry)!
And to round off the day in style, there are two options (among others): take in a show at the Escher Theater or make the most of the fine weather at the Kulturfabrik. Their Summer Bar reopens on May 8, perfect for toasting on the terrace under the lanterns before (or after) a concert or play.
In Esch, the day never really ends... we let it fly 💫
