Ready to go underground? Head to the National Iron Mines Museum in Rumelange for an adventure like no other: a real journey into the galleries of an old mine, more than 70 meters below ground (thrills guaranteed)
Here, there are no images in the window: you climb aboard a small mining train, explore almost 3 km of galleries, discover the period machines and experience what the red faces of Luxembourg experienced between 1860 and 1997.
Headphones on your head, passionate guide in your ears, you immerse yourself in another world.
And if you're with the family, the kids will love it: mini steam train, play area, nature walk, and even a small brasserie for the older ones (well-deserved beer).
Whether you're a historical touring team or an underground thrill-seeker, you'll come away with plenty of stories to tell (and a little dust on your shoes).
Good to know
For groups of 16 people or more, the museum is open all year round by reservation.
8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (last departure 4:30 p.m.).
Combined tour + meal offers are possible.
Near the museum site, several abandoned open-pit mines are slowly being reclaimed by nature. Hiking and mountain biking trails crisscross them in every direction, allowing you to admire the red rocks of the impressive mining faces, a veritable miniature canyon.
