Solitude | Reginald Mobley
- conference
- concert
After a first album devoted to African-American spirituals, American countertenor Reginald Mobley turns to the English repertoire in a simple combination of voice, lute, and viola da gamba. Solitude opens with the moving Tis Nature's Voice by Henry Purcell, sails through the profoundly melancholic works of John Dowland; the journey continues to American shores with contemporary composers Jonathan Woody and Douglas Balliett. Together with Brandon Acker and Douglas Balliett, Reggie closes this intimate musical journey with melodies arranged in the 19th century by Black American guitarist, composer, and abolitionist Justin Holland.
